Only written offers are binding (refer to my Terms and Conditions).
But I can offer a few rules of thumb which will give you a rough idea of what to expect: Price calculation with "standard lines"
What is a standard line?
Lines are the usual unit used to quote prices for translations in Austria. My definition is:
1 line = 55 characters including spaces, in the source text.
Caution: many translation offices base their estimates on the target text (the translation), so that the final price is adjusted at the end of the job.
How much does a line cost?
– I can do the simplest of translations from € 1.10 per line
(plus VAT).
– For specialist translations, the usual price range is around € 1.40 to € 1.60 per line (plus VAT).
– If a translation combines multiple aspects that add value (e.g. if it requires expert subject knowledge and has a marketing function), then you can expect an estimate of around € 2.00 per line (plus VAT).
– Certain jobs have an even higher value relative to the quantity of text, e.g slogans, advertising texts, etc., and for these jobs we will negotiate individual prices.
Hourly rates:
For text jobs that do not have a simple relationship to the amount of text (e.g editing)
I usually use an hourly rate of € 50 (plus VAT).
For on-location services such as interpreting, coaching, consulting etc. I use hourly rates of about €
70 to € 100 (plus VAT).
My price policy:
Not cheap, but good value. You won't use me for every document that you issue. Bu there are some jobs where the cheap way of doing things is much too expensive in the end; and for these communication tasks, my prices are very reasonable.
